These are intensive, full-day classroom programs designed to provide participants with an understanding of basic tools and techniques for digital nature and garden photography, based on Ian Adams' book, The Art Of Garden Photography. Topics covered in the seminar include:
Equipment: Point-&-shoot, digicam and digital SLR cameras and lenses; tripods and other essential accessories; filters; digital storage media. Guidelines for using digital cameras in the field, including important camera settings and controls.
Exposure Metering: How camera meters work; f/stops and shutter speeds; using multi-segment, center-weighted and spot meters; exposure guidelines and examples.
Scenic Photography: Depth-of-field control; hyperfocal distance focusing; use of wide-angle, normal, and telephoto lenses; compositional rules-of-thumb; lighting for scenic photography; hints for photographing waterfalls, sunrises and sunsets, misty scenes and other subjects.
Abstracts And Close-ups: Using zoom lenses to isolate patterns and textures; close-up lenses, extension tubes and macro lenses; metering for close-ups; depth-of-field control; camera positioning; reflectors and diffusors; flash techniques for moving subjects; photographing flower and insect close-ups.
The Digital Darkroom: Computer hardware and software for browsing, organizing, and fine-tuning your digital photographs; an introduction to digital workflow using Photoshop CS3 and Lightroom; using your digital photos to make email attachments, website graphics and Powerpoint slides; color calibrating monitors and printers; scanning slides; selecting and using inkjet printers to make exhibit-quality color prints.
