A Photographer’s Guide to Ohio – Volume 2!

The positive response to my book, A Photographer’s Guide to Ohio, has been very gratifying. The first printing of 1000 copies sold out within two months after the book was released by Ohio University Press in June, 2011. We are now well into the second printing. As mentioned in my previous blog post, I will be signing copies of the book this Saturday, November 3, 2012 at the Buckeye Book Fair in Wooster, Ohio. In addition, a few days ago, I signed a book contract with OU Press to produce A Photographer’s Guide to Ohio – Volume 2. My deadline for completing the manuscript and photography is April 30, 2014 and the book will be released about a year later, in theĀ  spring or early summer of 2015.

The size and format will be similar to A Photographer’s Guide to Ohio, and the opening chapter will provide an overview of key trends in digital cameras, lenses, and other equipment for landscape photography, plus some new techniques andĀ  approaches for photography on location as well as tips on fine-tuning and sharing digital photographs in today’s fast-paced world.

The current book includes detailed information on 158 locations, grouped into six chapters: scenic vistas; natural areas and preserves; waterfalls; public gardens; barns, bridges and rural areas; and historic buildings and murals. Volume 2 will include new locations in each of these categories, especially natural areas, public gardens, and historic buildings. In addition, there will be three new chapters: zoos and wildlife parks, scenic rivers and byways, and holiday lighting displays. I plan to do part of the writing this winter, complete my field trips and photography around the Buckeye State in 2013, and finish the manuscript by early spring, 2014.

Stay tuned! I’ll keep you posted through this blog as work on my new Ohio photographer’s guide progresses.
