If you would like to improve your garden and nature photography, please join us for a 1-1/2 day hands-on workshop with Ian Adams at Cleveland Botanical Garden on July 16 and July 23. The program is designed to help you create beautiful scenic and close-up photographs of Ohio’s most picturesque gardens with your smartphone, digital point-&-shoot or SLR/mirrorless camera.

During the morning classroom session you will learn the best smartphone and digital camera settings for landscape and garden photography; how to take sharp, well-exposed scenic and close-up garden photographs, and tips on visiting and photographing 25 of Ohio’s best public gardens, all described in Ian’s books, A Photographer’s Guide to Ohio – Volume 1 and 2.

Great lighting and a strong composition are critical components of fine garden photographs, and Ian’s program includes many examples of different kinds of lighting and how to apply the elements of good visual design principles when composing garden photographs. You will also receive a copy of many of Ian’s instructional slides as a handout.

When you have enjoyed the outdoor gardens, take a tour of the Eleanor Smith Glass House, where you can try your hand at photographing chameleons, tropical birds, butterflies, and even leaf-cutting ants, as well as hundreds of shrubs and plants that are at home in the Spiny Desert of Madagascar and Costa Rica’s tropical rain forest.

A handout will be provided, and copies of Ian’s Ohio photography guides and other recent books will be available for purchase.
