The unique combination of architecture, nature and horticulture at the magnificent 70-acre Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens in Akron will be the setting for a 2-hour Fall Photography Walk on Sunday, October 24, from 2-4 pm.

Sugar maple, tulip poplar, tupelo, ash, birch and many shrubs provide a tapestry of fall color photography opportunities in the gardens at Stan Hywet. During twenty years of photographic exploration I’ve gained an intimate knowledge of the gardens at Stan Hywet, and we will visit some of these special places during our afternoon photo shoot.

Birch Allee, Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens, Akron, Ohio

The Birch Tree Allee is an iconic part of the garden with a 550-foot long “alleyway” of more than 100 gray birches growing from the original root stock. Over many years, the trees have formed a corridor with natural light and shadows streaming through the branches and golden foliage in the fall.

Chrysanthemums, Carriage House, Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens

The Stan Hywet garden staff, assisted by many volunteers, create beautiful seasonal displays throughout the year, highlighted by pots of multicolored chrysanthemums during the fall.

As we stroll around the grounds at Stan Hywet, there will be many opportunities to create abstract, impressionistic images  – I call this photograph my “Monet moment.”
