Happy Thanksgiving

Bourbon Red Turkey, Goatfeathers Point Farm, Cuyahoga Valley

The handsome Bourbon Red turkey shown above was photographed near my northeast Ohio home at Goatfeathers Point Farm in Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Goatfeathers Point Farm (now renamed Keleman Point Farm) is part of an elite group of 10 historic, sustainably-worked farms in the CVNP, supervised by the nonprofit Countryside Initiative. The word “Point” in both names honors Nathaniel Point, the original holder of the farm he established in 1875.

The Bourbon Red turkey, one of the most popular heritage turkey breeds, is named for its distinctive red and white plumage and for Bourbon County, Kentucky.

Whichever breed of turkey graces your family’s table today, have a very happy Thanksgiving holiday!
