Summer is here, and dozens of species of butterflies, dragonflies, and damselflies are on the wing throughout the Buckeye State. There are about 144 kinds of butterflies and 165 species of dragonflies and damselflies that have been found in Ohio, and many of them can be observed in meadows, wetlands, and along rivers and streams in every corner of the state.

In the afternoon, join Ian Adams for a visit to several Holden locations to observe and photograph a wide variety of butterflies, dragonflies and damselflies. Bring your point-&-shoot camera or an SLR with a long focus or (preferably) a macro lens. Please note that iPhones and other smartphones that have a fixed, wide-angle lens are not well suited to close-up photography of flying insects.

There will be a review session at Holden on July 21, from 7-9 pm, to share your photos from the afternoon photo shoot and get some tips from Ian on fine-tuning your butterfly and dragonfly photos using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.
