New Ohio Galleries on Ian Adams Photography Website

Redbud near Clarksville, Clinton County

It hasn’t been much of a winter for outdoor photography around the Buckeye State, but I’ve been keeping busy with photography programs, workshops, and the release last month of my latest book, Ohio in Photographs: A Portrait of the Buckeye State, co-photographed with Randall Schieber from Columbus, with text by John Fleischman from Cincinnati and a foreword by Ohio Governor John Kasich, who helped to instigate the book. The redbud photograph shown above was included in the Southwest Ohio chapter of the book. It is also part of a new website album of five Ohio galleries, which showcase more than 560 of my favorite Ohio landscape images, including all 174 of my photographs included in Ohio in Photographs.  The redbud image is one of 140 photographs displayed in the Ohio – Natural Areas & Preserves gallery, which is organized by season, beginning in winter.

Spanish Bluebells & Rhododendrons, The Holden Arboretum, Madison, Lake County

The next gallery is Ohio – Public Gardens & Arboretums, which displays  116 photographs of Ohio’s major public gardens, including Cleveland Botanical Garden, The Holden Arboretum, Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens, Secrest Arboretum, Kingwood Center, The Ohio Heritage Garden at the Ohio Governor’s Residence, Schedel Arboretum, and Schoepfle Gardens. Four of these gardens have been the subject of book projects, and one – Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens – has been photographed for two book projects.

Amish Farmer Plowing near Mount Hope, Holmes County

The third gallery, Ohio – Rural Areas, includes 110 photographs of historic barns, covered bridges, grist mills, Amish farms, a cattle ranch, a sheep farm, livestock, poultry, produce, and Ohio rural scenes in winter. Many of these images will appear in another book, Ohio Farming – A Photographic Celebration, which I plan to complete within the next couple of years.

Lancaster, in Fairfield County, from Mount Pleasant

Next is the Ohio – City and Town Vistas gallery, which showcases 50 images of Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Columbus, as well as some of Ohio’s smaller cities and towns.

The Manor House at Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens in Akron

The fifth gallery, Ohio – Historic Buildings & Murals, includes 144 images of arcades, birthplaces of notable Ohioans, bridges, castles, churches,  courthouses, iron furnaces, lighthouses, memorials, murals, museums, sternwheelers, and other distinctive examples of Ohio architecture.

More than 300 of the places depicted in these five new Ohio galleries are described in more detail in my books, A Photographer’s Guide to Ohio and A Photographer’s Guide to Ohio – Volume 2. Signed copies of these two books are available in our bookstore.

Green Heron, Cuyahoga Valley National Park

In addition, 14 other galleries, containing a total of 325 photographs, showcase some of my favorite images of architecture, barns, bridges, butterflies, dragonflies, gardens, iPhone, lighthouses, mushrooms, rural, trees, waterfalls, wildflowers, and wildlife.

Over the next few weeks, we plan to add a search capability to the galleries, allowing the viewer to locate images based on a keyword search.

All of these photographs, and thousands more in my files, represent the fruits of a forty year exploration of the landscapes of Ohio, Florida, New England, the Midwest, and a few other U.S. states, mostly east of the Mississippi. These images are all available as stock photographs, as well as custom Epson Ultrachrome inkjet prints in a variety of sizes. More information on prints is available here.
