Slide Program on Ohio Cemetery Book – Mentor Public Library – December 11, 2023

Union Cemetery, Saint Clairsville, Belmont County, Ohio

For the past three years, I have been collaborating with fellow Ohio photographer Randall Lee Schieber and writer Robin Smith, both based in Columbus, to produce an exhibit-format book on Ohio’s most interesting, historic, and beautiful cemeteries. Throughout 2021 and 2022, Randy and I each traveled about 25,000 miles in search of photogenic cemeteries in all 88 counties of the Buckeye State. Ohio University Press will publish this book, tentatively titled This Place of Silence: Ohio’s Cemeteries & Burial Grounds, in July, 2024. The photography, text and copy-editing for the book are mostly completed, and the detailed page design will be carried out over the next few months.

On Monday, December 11, from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, I will be presenting a preview slide program on Ohio’s cemeteries and burial grounds, based on our new book project, at Mentor Public Library in Lake County. Please note that the new Ohio Cemetery book will not be released until mid-2024, but copies of my other recent Ohio books already published as well as my new 2024 Lake View Cemetery calendar will be available at the slide program.
