As noted in an update to my April 11 blog post, the Stan Hywet Photo Walk originally scheduled for Sunday, May 4, from 2-4pm, has been rescheduled to Sunday, June 29, from 2-4 pm, pending the completion of Stan Hywet’s new online event registration system.
On Thursday, May 15, from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm I will be conducting my slide program, Fungus Among Us: Mushrooms of Ohio for North Canton Public Library at the North Canton Civic (Senior) Center, as described in the graphic below:

I was delighted to accept an invitation from the Greater Akron Area Audubon Society (GAAS) to deliver their annual Bert Szabo Legacy Address on May 27, 2025 at 7:00 pm at the Himmelright Lodge in Summit County Parks’ Cascade Valley Metro Park. My program will be Trees: A Photographic Celebration, and will include some of my memories of the late Bert Szabo, who hired me in the mid-1980s in one of my first freelance photography assignments to photograph trees at Seiberling Naturealm in Summit County Parks. I will bring along copies of my recent Ohio books to share at both of these programs, including A Photographer’s Guide to Ohio – Volumes 1 and 2, Ohio in Photographs: A Portrait of the Buckeye State, and my latest book, This Place of Silence: Ohio’s Cemeteries and Burial Grounds.
