Hale Farm & Village will be hosting a Midwestern American Landscapes, Farms and Gardens 1820-1995 Symposium on June 11-12, 2015. In addition to tours of Hale Farm & Village, Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens, Simon Perkins Mansion and John Brown House, the symposium will feature three presentations by keynote speaker Dr. Denise Wiles Adams, a highly respected historian of ornamental plants and American garden design. Dr. Adams’ programs will include: Restoring Midwestern Gardens, Gardens of the Golden Age, and American Home Landscapes.

I will be participating in the symposium with a slide program, The Natural, Rural & Garden Landscapes of Northeast Ohio, which will highlight the unique natural areas, farms, and historic gardens of  the northeast counties of the Buckeye State, as well as some of the organizations that are working to preserve these places. The slide program will be preceded by cocktails and dinner, and will be held at the Portage Country Club in Akron, Ohio.

Many of the photographs included in the slide program are featured in my new books, A Photographer’s Guide to Ohio – Volume 2, and the 100th anniversary edition of Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens. Copies of these books will be available at the program.

A flier describing the symposium, including a registration form, is available here: Symposium Registration 5-12-15.
