iPhone Landscape & Nature Photography Workshops (1/2-day and 1-1/2 days)

The best camera, it is often said, is the one that is always with you – your smartphone! Today everyone uses an iPhone or Android smartphone, and both are capable of producing photographs that rival those taken with point shoot or even DSLR cameras.

Ian Adams offers a popular, fast-paced iPhone program for organizations of any size.

Digital Landscape & Garden Photography Workshop (1-1/2 days)

This is an intensive, 1-1/2-day program designed to provide participants with an understanding of tools and techniques for digital landscape and garden photography, based on Ian Adams’ books, The Art Of Garden Photography and A Photographer’s Guide to Ohio – Volumes 1 &2. Topics covered in the morning classroom session include:

Equipment: Point-&-shoot and digital SLR cameras and lenses; tripods and other useful accessories; filters; digital storage media. Guidelines for using digital cameras in the field, including important camera settings and controls. Mobile photography using your iPhone or other smartphone.

Exposure Metering: How camera meters work; f/stops and shutter speeds; using multi-segment, center-weighted and spot meters; understanding and interpreting in-camera histograms; exposure guidelines and examples.

Scenic Photography: Depth-of-field control; hyperfocal distance focusing; use of wide-angle, normal, and telephoto lenses; compositional guidelines; lighting for scenic photography; tips for photographing waterfalls, sunrises and sunsets, misty scenes; architecture; gardens and other subjects.

Abstracts And Close-ups: Using zoom lenses to isolate patterns and textures; close-up lenses, extension tubes and macro lenses; metering for close-ups; depth-of-field control; camera positioning; reflectors and diffusers; flash techniques for moving subjects; photographing flower close-ups, butterflies and dragonflies.

The Digital Darkroom: Computer hardware and software for browsing, organizing, and fine-tuning your digital photographs; an introduction to digital workflow using Adobe Lightroom Classic CC and Photoshop CC, sharing your digital photos as email attachments, website graphics and Powerpoint slides; calibrating monitors and printers; scanning slides; selecting and using inkjet printers to make exhibit-quality color and black-&-white prints. Self-publishing books and ebooks, using Lightroom Classic CC and Blurb.com.

The afternoon session includes a photo shoot with personal coaching and demonstrations by Ian Adams, followed by a 1/2-day review and critique of participants’  photographs taken during the photo shoot (usually one week after the workshop) . Each 1-1/2 day workshop is limited to 16 participants.

Demonstrations of useful Adobe Lightroom Classic CC and Photoshop CC technique for fine-tuning your digital landscape and nature photographs are  included in the review session.

    Lake View Cemetery has not finalized the date yet, but we will schedule a 2-hour iPhone photo tour of Lake View during September. I will post the details on my website as soon as they are available. Ian

    I just purchased your book, A Photographers Guide to Ohio, Volume 2 and OMgosh!!!! Love it!! May I please ask for the cost of your July 16th workshop? I am so sorry if you have published it on the web…I saw the cost of the private workshops although I was not sure if there was a different rate for the public workshops. Please guide me and thank you in advance.
