This Place of Silence: Ohio’s Cemeteries and Burial Grounds – October Slide Programs and Book Signings

My new book, This Place of Silence: Ohio’s Cemeteries and Burial Grounds, was released in July, 2024 by Ohio University Press, and I will be conducting two slide programs about the book during October, 2024. I will also be signing copies of This Place of Silence, which retails for $29.95, at both of these programs. Cash, personal checks, and credit cards are all acceptable as payment.

The first event will take place in the Alden Library at Ohio University in Athens on Wednesday, October 16, at 5:30 pm. The event is part of the Authors at Alden series, and will include my slide presentation on our This Place of Silence book, followed by a Question and Answer session on the book hosted by Timothy Anderson, who is an Associate Professor of Geography at Ohio University. I will be available to sign copies of the book before and after the program. Alden Library is also the headquarters of Ohio University Press, which has published five books of my Ohio landscape photography during the past two decades.

Wade Chapel Interior, Lake View Cemetery, Cleveland

The photograph above shows the interior of the Jeptha Wade Memorial Chapel at Lake View Cemetery, which is showcased in 18 photographs in our new book, This Place of Silence: Ohio’s Cemeteries and Burial Grounds. The Wade Memorial Chapel was built in 1901 as a memorial to Jeptha Wade, founder of The Western Union Telegraph Company and the first president of Lake View Cemetery. The entire interior of this chapel was designed by Louis Comfort Tiffany and his studios, including intricate mosaics depicting the Old and New Testaments on the walls and the spectacular stained glass window, The Flight of Souls, shown in the photograph. This room is the setting for my slide program on This Place of Silence on Sunday, October 20, from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm. After the program, we will stroll around the perimeter of the lake near Wade Memorial Chapel to view six of the monuments and gravestones at Lake View featured in the book. I will also be available to sign copies of the book before and after the slide program.

For more information about this event, visit the Lake View Cemetery website.
