Trees Program – Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens – August 6, 2026

Peonies and white oaks near the West Terrace Overlook, Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens, Akron, Ohio

During my 35-year career as an Ohio landscape photographer, I have photographed more trees than any other subject. My next book, a self-published portfolio of about 90 of my favorite tree photographs, Trees: A Photographic Celebration, is in the final design stage, and will be released in late fall, 2026. I will be conducting a slide program preview of Trees: A Photographic Celebration on Thursday, August 6 in the Carriage House auditorium at Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens in Akron, Ohio. The gardens at Stan Hywet feature many impressive trees, including the white oaks and Japanese maples shown in the photo above, and six of the tree images in the new book were taken at Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens.

Manor House from Northwest, Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens, Akron, Ohio

The 65,000 square-foot Manor House, shown in the fall photo above, is surrounded on all sides by stately trees, including a unique allee of gray birches to the north, another allee of London Plane trees to the south, and several magnificent oaks along the Manor House driveway on the east side.

Also featured in the book are many of my favorite tree quotations and poems, including The Road Not Taken and Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening by Robert Frost, who received no less than four Pulitzer Prizes during his poetic career.

In addition, I will be conducting a 2-hour Fall Photo Walk around the gardens at Stan Hywet on Sunday, October 25, from 2-4 pm.
