For the past decade or more, I have devoted many hours to observing and photographing dragonflies and damselflies throughout the Buckeye State. On Sunday, February 12, from 2-4 pm, as part of The Holden Arboretum’s annual Fireside Lecture Series, I will be presenting Gossamer Wings: Ohio’s Dragonflies & Damselflies. Join me if you would like to learn more about these living jewels of Ohio’s rivers, lakes, and meadows.

During the program we will cover the following topics:
* The basics of dragonfly and damselfly anatomy and the different stages of their brief but fascinating lives;
* A photographic journey through the enchanting world of darners, clubtails, skimmers, spiketails, meadowhawks, dancers, bluets, and other members of Ohio’s 165 species of odonata (i.e. dragonflies and damselflies);
* The predatory dining habits of dragonflies and their wild and amazing sex lives;
* How to find dragonflies and damselflies in the field and use close-focusing binoculars to observe them in their natural habitats;
* The best field guides for identifying Ohio’s dragonflies and damselflies;
* Resources for learning more about Ohio’s dragonflies and damselfies.
